So, as I said, the design change was only the first part of the new and improved sea-patrol.com. It's going to get bigger and better!

How you ask?

Working with both McElroy and the publicity team, I have been sent a lot of episode stills (not too many for series 1 and 2) but a lot for series 3 and 4.

I have also been sent press kits for series 1 - 4, these include full episode synopsis, full character bios, and a short Q and A. Previously, sea-patrol.com has only had series 1 Q & A's up. So when the new content is launched, you will get interviews from the main cast for series 1 - 4. The series 4 ones are different from the exclusive interviews published on this site.

Since 'Sea Patrol' has now run for 4 series, with a 5th series coming soon, the way I approach the site is changing. For example, when you click on Characters, you will have the option of going to series 1 - 4 and getting full character bios for that series. It will also include the interviews with each cast member, and a small bio for each guest character / actor for that series - which we currently only have little bits of.

The episode pages will also follow closely with the above structure. I'm hoping this means people can visit the site, read up on the series they're up to, say series 2 or 3, and not read too many spoilers about future series etc. Think a more friendly international site.

So a quick overview of what the new site will hold:

Character bios for each series.

Q & A with all the main cast (series 1 - 4)

Guest character / actor info.

More publicity pictures!

I'm sure I've missed some stuff, but I hope to have this stuff all online in the next couple of weeks.

As things come online, I'll post updates here, and also on Facebook and Twitter.

On a side note, I also plan to have a more visual feeling to the site, especially since we're not short of episode stills. Expect an updated gallery after all this work is done.

These will be updated in line with this site (and ninemsn's site).

Please note, that the series does not have any official Facebook and Twitter pages, however, due to our close relationship with McElroy, these two accounts will be updated with information from the producers...

If you don't visit the site / forums daily, I highly recommend you 'Like' or 'Follow' these pages so you can be kept up to date when new info is posted here.

The more local drama, the merrier: Nine

According to the Nine’s head of drama Jo Horsburgh, the network’s slate is one of its busiest ever, even in the face of increasing production costs.
“The question from both [CEO] David Gyngell and [director of programming] Michael Healy has been ‘Can we make more and more Australian drama?’ Certainly the sense within Nine is the more, the merrier, but the reality is how long it takes to get it on to the screen, to find the projects, to get the finance together,” Horsburgh told Encore.
“We’d love to be like Hollywood but we’re not quite there yet. Ideally, we’d like to make more because Australian audiences are interested in Australian drama, and that’s been demonstrated,” she said. “Generally speaking, there have been increases in salaries and equipment, and rightly so, in the cost of scripts, which was long overdue.”
Nine launches its new police drama Cops L.A.C. this Thursday (September 2); a show that Horsburgh says is “fresh” and offers “great production values: “Cop shows are universal and there’s always a challenge when you’re doing one, because they always have to bring something that’s a bit different, without reinventing the wheel. Cops L.A.C. brings a bit of freshness and great characters.”

Horsburgh denied that the show was set in Sydney because of incentives offered by New South Wales: “You’ve got [Seven’s] City Homicide in Melbourne, and this is something that’s based on the local area command in Sydney, which lends itself to this kind of story. It looks terrific; we’re shooting in and around Sydney and NSW.”
The network committed $60m for drama production this year, including new series for Underbelly (4), Sea Patrol (5), Rescue: Special Ops (3), Cops L.A.C.and a number of telemovies.
Most of Nine’s Australian productions are crime/action-based, but Horsburgh says this doesn’t mean that the channel is trying to specialise in this genre. If anything, it’s been a coincidence.
“We haven’t’ always totally been action-based. We had McLeod’s Daughters, which had those fantastic landscapes, and Sea Patrol also brings that element. Looking at the slate on air now, there’s a lot of action and crime, and certainly landscapes and action look terrific on people’s new big screens. That kind of storytelling is something that Nine does very well, and we’ll continue to do that, but equally, there are many other projects in development.
“At the moment, our slate is very varied, with projects coming from all different directions. We have relationships with Screentime, Southern Star, Fremantle Media and independents producers, we speak to everybody. There are working relationships and you have ongoing conversations; there are always projects that we’re taking to treatments, bibles, scripts – things that may hit the sweet spot, but a lot of this is subject to what’s happening on screen,” said Horsburgh.
The slate of telemovies includes the three Underbelly Files, and Panic at Rock Mountain.
“Audiences like telemovies, and if they’re promoted well they can do great, like Wicked Love – The Maria Korp Story. We’ve got many in development, so the amount of stories coming through the door and the amount of different producers behind them is quite eclectic.
“Creatively, they’re always very fulfilling and they can be terrific for a programmer, because they can deliver a very entertaining night’s viewing, and can be worked on and promoted. Also, they’re good for directors, actors, writers and everyone really; they’re the training ground for feature films, and often they’re so much better [than feature films],” she explained.
This slate, however, is exclusively for Nine’s main channel, as there are no plans for projects for the digital channel Go!: “Quite often we find projects that would be fantastic for the secondary channel, but we’ve got to put out our energy and finances into our primary drama. If that changes, it would be terrific, because there would be lots of things waiting in the wings.”

Great news that Nine is so focused on the Drama shows. Good news for Sea Patrol and all other productions!:)

As I said yesterday, I'm working on a new site design for the main site, I've found a template I'm happy with. I'm currently working on it to make it look more 'Sea Patrol'.

Some new features with the new design:

A search box, since the site is getting more complicated all the time.

A 'sliding' news box which will display a picture and tidbit from the latest news articles and rotate (for higher visibility).

A faster loading site (hopefully).

And some other odds and ends to make the site a bit brighter.

As some of you will see, the header area, is green, I decided to move away from an entirely blue site, as the new camos have green in them. Blue will still appear.

I'm not sure when the site will be online, but I hope it's less than a month away. The forums will also get an upgrade. But I'm still thinking about that.

This is a very 'first draft' site.

The first picture is of the new front page (including the blue area, which will be the 'rotating / sliding news area).

The second picture is of Mike Flynn's page. Just to give you an idea of how the main content pages will look.

If you see some weird formatting in the pictures, please ignore. This won't appear in the final site.

Hi all,

Just wondering who here uses Amazon to buy things? And if so, what do you buy, books, dvd's etc?

I'm thinking about having ads for amazon on this website, but I need to know what ads people would like most, I thought DVD's, but I know the bulk of them are region 1 (US), but I've bought books and stuff off of it.

So do you use it, and what do you buy?
Cheers,

For the members that were around between series 3 and 4, you would remember Hal and Di allowed us to ask questions of the cast and crew, for answering in the off season (production season), they have again agreed to this.

This time however it will work differently. Last year, we were bombarded with questions for Lisa McCune and Ian Stenlake, so much so, I had to re-word some of their questions and ask other members of the crew those questions, so this year, we have two lists:

LCDR/CMDR Mike Flynn (Ian Stenlake)

LEUT Kate McGregor (Lisa McCune)

PO Bosun Dylan “Dutchy” Mulholland (Conrad Coleby)

------------------------------------

CPO Andy “Charge” Thorp (John Batchelor)

PO Coxswain Chris Blake (Matt Holmes)

LS Robert J Dixon (Kristian Schmid)

LS Leo “2Dads” Kosov-Meyer (Nikolai Nikolaeff)

SMN Jessica “Gap Girl” Bird (Danielle Horvat)

If you ask a question of the first three crew members, you must ask a question of another crew member (under the line), or if you wish, you can ask a generic question for any and all crew. You can ask as many questions as you want. If you ask a question of the bottom list, you don't need to ask a question of the top three.

I would like 1 rule for 1 though. If you ask Lisa McCune 2 questions, I would ask that you ask a crew member (or two) below the line, 2 questions also.

Also, to make this clear, you must present your questions like this:

Quote:

To Lisa McCune: How many children do you have?

To Kristian Schmid: What is your favourite time of day?

To all / any cast: What is your favourite colour?

Last year it was a dogs breakfast, and took me a while to work out questions (so please follow the above). Please watch your spelling and grammar, as I had to edit a lot of the questions asked last year.

Please try not to cover ground from our last questions. You can read them all in this area.

If you don't follow the above rules, your questions will be disregarded. Do not ask a question more than once, please make sure you've read other peoples questions before submitting your question.

Please note: You cannot ask questions of crew members not on the above list. This includes Bomber, she has left.

I don't really have a closing date for this, probably in a month or so. I also cannot guarantee which questions will be asked or if your question will be altered.

This isn't one post per person either, if you think of another question or two later, feel free to ask.

I will be choosing the questions which are submitted, this will not be shared with members until the interviews are published - this is because if someone doesn't make a final decision about the questions, we could debate which ones to ask for a month.

I'll probably be asking between 10-15 questions per person, this depends on the quality of the questions asked.

Also, if you ask questions about series 5, don't be surprised if you don't get the answer you're after, they cannot give away too many details.
