Default New site - when would you like to see it running?

The new forum is coming along nicely, as seen in this thread.

The staff have been looking at the new forum software, and we haven't found too many major bugs, but the only real test is to put it online, with all the content from here, and see how we go. The content management side of the site, I was hoping to replace WordPress with isn't where we need it to be, no gallery software running etc, but the forum / blog is pretty much ready to go, so the question is as follows:

When would you like to see the updated forum software running?

I'd personally like everything working before we go across, though that's a very general view. I definitely want it all online and working a while before season 4 starts. Though, as it stands, I wouldn't say no to a modular approach, putting across different elements (member profiles, blogs, etc) and seeing how they work. Of course, I understand this may not be possible, the new system could be all tied together.

I'd like this too Griffinwolf, but I don't think the site would be ready by the time series 4 starts. Basically the start of the stuff I needed is the next version, which is being launched in a few days, which is fine, however, we still wouldn't have a decent gallery, and I'm not sure what I'd do with our videos, as they're not working with the software yet - and I'm not putting them on YouTube - had enough issues with that. Lost about 80 videos (some of them I actually owned) when they deleted my account last time. I might see what the update brings us, and decide then.

I basically don't want the gallery down whilst the series is airing. And at the moment, no one can promise when a gallery will be working with the software (that isn't the albums) or when a bridge for the current gallery software we use will be working (or even if one is going to be developed)...

And that's where we're at

I don't really mind when the new forum is up and running. Whenever it is convenient for you. I know it takes time to get things together.

If you think it's best to wait, hawker, then we should wait. Most people would want the gallery working when the new series starts, I think, and you certainly don't want to lose your videos again.

P.S. Any videos you're worried about can always be stored at my Aaron site. Just make yourself a folder. You can make it visible to admin only too, if you wish.

I agree with Wolfy, if you think it's best to wait, then wait. People will definitely want the gallery working.

See what the update brings. I'm also with everyone in saying at your convenience.

I can disable the front end, so we can update the forums and continue to run the current software.

It just means down the track I'll have to get the front end working. But means we can take advantage of the new software sooner rather than later - it is faster.

Doesn't the front end usually have the preview videos from Channel Nine? I think most people would like to see those when the new series starts.

Which is why I'd leave the current software running until the new software supports video and galleries.

When I say as soon as possible, I mean whenever you can get it ready. (confusing? )

FYI: when I say leave the current software as is. I mean wordpress. I still want to update the forum software (minus the content management system) soon. That way we can iron out bugs soon. I just want to wait till the next update to see what has been updated.

This is all entirely over my head, Hawker, so my only two cents is I HATE CHANGE! But as my children continue to grow up without my permission, I'm learning to cope. So, in short, no hurry. Whenever you're confortable and ready, the rest of us will adapt, and be happy about it!

I agree with Wolfy and Griff, It is much better when everything works then changing it now and some things don't work out.
It would be terrible when some items don't work or can be shown.
Take you time for it as long as is needed to get everything working perfect even if it is after series 4 is aired.

I really don't mind when the new website is launched. But it would be good if everything was working during season 4. take as much time as you need. looking forward to the new website =D

Whenever the time is right; when it's running to the standards you want it, and when you are ready to put it all up. I'm just happy to go with the flow. I'm in no hurry for the switch over; when it happens, it happens
