Okay so on Sunday I got back from the Advanced Leadership course held at the Royal New Zealand Police College. So from day one the expectations on use were huge as we were introduced as the cream of the crop of the NZCF. We were then shown our accommodation and wow it was amazing! We all got our own rooms and spent an hour or so settling in. Down to dinner we went and the food was great down there as well. We met all of our syndicate and the whole group. On the second day of the course we had our first critical terminal. Instructional technique and teaching. I amazingly managed to pass. The whole time I was really scared that I was going over time, that I missed things out and all sorts! But the assessment officer said I did a really good job and stuff which was great. For the next few days it was mainly just in the classroom and stuff. Got to go swimming in the pool which was awesome!
Then we had our big outdoors day. In the morning we had the team building activity which was a run with all of the gear to build a raft. Build the raft and get every team member over a lake. Once completed we had to go for another run to get the whole raft back to the start point and disassemble it. That afternoon we then had to do the police PCT course which included jumping through windows, over fences and walls and a body drag. It was such an awesome day! Exercise Brimstone saw the first of our leadership activities which went alright but could have been better. I always got to be the patient in first aid scenarios because I had twisted my ankle the day before. We then did more admin and paperwork in class. We learnt about the United Nations Convention for the Rights of a Child and International Human Rights. We also covered minor conflicts, the orderly room/captains table, time management, unit problems and risk management. We also got to go up to the police shooting range and see the weapons in use which was pretty awesome as well as seeing the dog squad On our last full day of course we had Exercise Hellfire which was a full day of leadership activities. My leadership activity was pushing a van and keeping it on two ropes the whole time and it couldnt be stationery for more than a minute. It wasn't a hard task to complete but it did require a lot of people control to make sure everyone was safe and the van kept on the ropes. So on the last day of course we did our final parade and graduation. It was pretty emotional and sad to say goodbye to everyone! We were such a tight team! We spent most of the morning in the cafe or in the TV room before having lunch and going to the airport to fly back to all of our home locations. ![]() The whole group ![]() Classroom work ![]() Haircuts ![]() Ceremonial drill ![]() Entrance to the PC ![]() The dining halls (gotta love the random disco ball) ![]() One of the leadership tasks ![]() Raft construction ![]() Pretty cool photo ![]() Raft fail
