9 Months. 10 if you count RAP... except I won't be at Cerberus
Time will fly by... or at least here's hoping.

Yeah, the RNZN works on tier systems during training. Red, green, blue and yellow. Don't think it's in that order though. Can't remember. Pretty much even when you graduate BCT you don't hold rank until you graduate Basic Branch Training. So those who have a 8 or 12 week course will get their OD ranks pretty quickly. However technicians have one year long BBT and medics two and a half year BBT. Therefore stuck on the tier levels longer.

Yeah, it's kinda random seeing all the recruits walking around and they've got all these different coloured rank slides.

I'm just thankful that when I get down there I automatically go Tier 4! Otherwise I'd go crazy!!!

Just think, if you had of joined up instead of doing a gap year you would be rated by now.

But isn't that the intention of the Gap Year program? To convert the undecided?

Even if I'd tried to sign on straight as a medic... I probably wouldn't be getting in until now what with the wait to get on it. 2 and a half years... I'd probably still be a civvie working at Donut King and wouldn't have met particular people

Sounds like you've had an amazing time. I was considering joining the Navy next year, but I'm not sure I'd pass the Medical, to quote my friends - I'm made of spare parts and have more bits that don't work than do - shame. Hope the rest of your experiences are just as incredible
Good Luck with everything.

GX are treated like perpetual trainees, it's a weird system because they aren't trainees nor are they rated sailors.
